When to use Instrumental Case in Polish?

The instrumental case in Polish is, above all else, used to indicate the means, tool, or instrument by which an action is performed

• Piszę długopisem (I write with a pen)

• Jadę samochodem (I drive a car)

The instrumental can also be used with verbs like być (to be) when identifying or describing someone or something. It is often used to describe what nationality someone is.

• On jest lekarzem (He is a doctor)

• Ona jest Polką (She is Polish)
